The mighty bearded 6 string Slayer axe-merchant that is Kerry King will be dropping in to Fear FestEviL as a panelist.. The celebrated co-founder of the genre-defining LA-born quartet has always enjoyed horror and all things creepy, spooky and downright goddam SCARY, as evidenced by his contribution to some of the world’s most violently visceral riffs.
Both Slayer, and Kerry, are world famous for their aural visualizations of violent horror and macabre mayhem, with classics such as “Raining Blood”, “Chemical Warfare” and “Angel of Death” echoing their extreme tendencies. Fear FestEviL is delighted to have Kerry on board, and he is one helluva cool guest for us to be able to announce.
OH YES YES YES!
We here at your lil’ old FEAR FESTEviL are delighted to be able to confirm the appearance of legendary Bay Area thrashers EXODUS on Friday, February 7th.
When it comes to thrash metal, in particular Bay Area thrash, Exodus are one of the true Godfathers. Formed in 1980 by guitarist Tim Agnello, drummer Tom Hunting, bassist Carlton Melson and some other six-stringer called Kirk Hammett, Agnello soon left, allowing Hammett’s guitar tech Gary Holt to step up and in.
Hammett then stumbled across Paul Baloff, a demo was recorded, Hammett left to join some other upstarts, Rick Hunolt took the other guitar, and the rest became history. Their 1984 debut Bonded By Blood is a stonewall genre classic, and with cranium crunching classics such as ‘”A Lesson In Violence”, “Strike Of The Beast” and “Burn, Hollywood, Burn”, we can promise that this will not be a calm or gentle soiree more than an aural beatdown.
The current line-up of Holt, Lee Altus on guitar, Hunting, Jack Gibson on bass and Rob Dukes on vocals has been in place since 2007. Exodus’ last album was 2010′s Exhibit B: The Human Condition on Nuclear Blast Records, and the band have just started working on new material for a prospective release later in 2014.
I was born in a caravan by the sea in Portsmouth, England. It was sometime in the year 1958. Then we moved to Coventry, where I grew up.
Later on I started trying to earn a living as an illustrator. I tried to create what I thought was a better kind of imagery for rock music than the rubbish that was current at the time. This endeavor took a couple of years and resulted in a series of images, the most popular of which was the character “Eddie the Head” that was later used as a mascot by the band Iron Maiden. The series of album covers and other designs that I painted for Iron Maiden became the most popular album covers of all time, they won awards in every country in which they were released. They outsold all other form of merchandise, including Disney’s Mickey Mouse. The posters were the best selling posters of all time, they occupied numbers 1,2&3 in the poster charts of the mid 1980′s at the same time. The pictures won “best album cover” awards year after year in most of the countries of the world. One year my designs won the “best album cover” award, and also came in at the second place as well. We’re pleased to add even more horror business with a new guest – DOYLE!
Doyle was originally a roadie for the The Misfits, and was taught how to play guitar by Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only. He joined the Misfits in October 1980 at the age of 16. Since then, he has been also been a part of The Misfits, Kryst the Conqueror, Gorgeous Frankenstein, and in 2012 began once again playing guitar on The Misfits songs during the Danzig Legacy tour.
In 2013, Doyle released his latest album “Abominator” on his own label, MonsterMan Records. A sonically thick and lyrically evil slab of horror-punk tinged metal that finds Doyle expanding in a logical progression upon the genre of music he helped create.
